He was born in Konya in 1967. Prof. Dr. Taner Yiğit is married and has two children and speaks English well.
He attended primary school between 1974 and 1979 and graduated from Erzurum Dumlu Primary School in 1979.
He completed his secondary and high school education at İzmir Karataş High School between 1979 and 1984.
He started his medical education at Gülhane Military Medical Academy (GATA) Military Medical Faculty in 1984 and graduated in 1990 as a medical lieutenant.
Between 1991 and 1993, he served in the Kayseri 1st Commando Brigade Command.
Between 1993 and 1997, he specialized in general surgery at GATA General Surgery Department and became a general surgeon.
Between 1997 and 2001, he worked as a general surgery specialist at Erzurum Marshal Çakmak Military Hospital.

Between 2004 and 2005, he received training on “Obesity and Advanced Laparoscopic Techniques” as a visiting professor at the Washington University General Surgery Department in Seattle, USA.

In 2013, he was appointed to the staff of Professor at GATA General Surgery Department.
Between 2016 and 2017, he worked as a faculty member at the Ministry of Health, University of Health Sciences.
He retired from public service in 2017.
