Orthodontics

Orthodontics is a treatment aimed at correcting crooked teeth, closing the gap between teeth, and eliminating misalignment due to differences in growth between the jaws. It is colloquially known as dental brace treatment. Metal braces, porcelain braces, and transparent plaques are the most commonly applied treatment techniques. Orthodontic treatment lasts 1.5-2 years on average. Although the ideal age to start treatment is said to be 12, it is necessary to intervene earlier in patients with some jaw growth problems (cases where the upper jaw or lower jaw is positioned forward or backward).  Failure to intervene in these patients on time may necessitate the need for future surgical (orthognathic surgery) procedures.

Metal Braces: These are the braces that have been the most commonly used in orthodontic treatment for many years. Although it is the most preferred braces by physicians, it is not preferred by some patients due to its appearance being gray. With these brace systems, your treatment can be carried out both quickly and affordably.

Porcelain Braces are more preferred than metal braces in recent years due to their aesthetic advantages, such as being white in color and being less obvious during treatment. Treatment with porcelain brackets used to last, on average, 6 months longer than with metal brackets, but today there is not much difference between the treatment durations due to the development of technology.

Transparent Plaques: Patients who are uncomfortable with the presence of metal and porcelain brackets on their teeth may be offered treatment with transparent plaques. Although it is not suitable for every patient, it is now a good treatment option for many patients. In our clinic, it is usually applied to patients who receive orthodontic treatment without dental extraction. Patients’ intraoral conditions are scanned with both intraoral measurements and camera systems, and customized plaques are produced digitally. Although the duration of treatment varies from person to person, it is not much different from orthodontic treatment applied with normal braces.
