Abdominoplasty

Detail about our service

Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) surgery is a solution to sagging skin in the abdomen and lower abdomen and fat that diet and exercise cannot remove. Sagging, cracks and fat deposits caused by caesarean section, pregnancy and constant weight gain can be easily removed with an aesthetic operation. If, in addition to the general interventions to eliminate the deformity in the abdominal and lower abdominal area, fat accumulation and sagging only occur in the area below the navel, the mini tummy tuck can be sufficient. Mini abdominoplasty is an easier surgery, both in terms of the duration of the procedure and the shorter recovery time. The recovery time varies greatly from person to person, depending on their lifestyle and physical structure. Today, innovations in the field of medicine make it easier to perform this type of surgery more successfully than many other types of surgery.

Who are the most suitable candidates?

The most appropriate group of patients are women who have approached their ideal weight, preferably through diet and exercise, but whose abdominal sagging has not yet resolved. A mother regains her prenatal appearance with streaks and wrinkles. In the operation, muscle weakness caused by pregnancy is eliminated, birth cracks are removed.

This operation is also performed on men to eliminate abdominal sagging. In patients who have lost significant weight after gastric banding or other stomach weight-loss surgeries, the abdominal skin sags in a way that can interfere with the person’s daily activities. This group of patients is also one of the suitable candidates.

Who Should Not Have a Tummy Tuck?

The general health of the patient must be good. Obese patients are not suitable candidates. Wound healing problems are more common in people with a body mass index over 30. Abdominoplasty is not surgery for weight loss. This operation is recommended after as much weight as possible has been lost, e.g. through diet and exercise, and the desired weight has already been reached. Abdominoplasty is not for young patients who do not have excessive slackening of the abdominal skin, excess fat tissue, and who have not lost their skin elasticity. Liposuction is more suitable for these people. Traces of previous abdominal surgeries may affect the candidacy for a tummy tuck.

Can those who are considering having children have this surgery?

We do not recommend this operation to women who want to have children. In fact, the operation has no problems in terms of the health of both mother and child. But most of the corrections made in the mother’s previous operation, especially the tightening of the abdominal muscles, are lost. However, there is no harm in performing liposuction between pregnancies.

What should be considered when preparing for the operation?

For the best and fastest wound healing, patients should at least cut down on smoking. Diabetes and blood pressure disorders do not prevent surgery. But these diseases must be under control. In recent years we have observed our patients using a variety of herbal products that have the potential to delay blood clotting. It would be beneficial to discontinue such products used in tablet or tea form prior to surgery.

How is the procedure carried out?

On the morning of the operation, the surgeon carries out the corresponding planning and drawing while standing. During this drawing, the location and shape of the scar at the end of the operation are determined. The operation is performed under general anesthesia and mainly liposuction of the back and waist region is performed. Then the patient is laid on their back and the skin between the top of the bikini line and the belly button is removed with all the fat layer in between. The tension of the abdominal muscles is achieved by suturing two separate abdominal muscles together in the midline with strong and thick threads. This process also forms the waist crease inwards. Then the abdominal skin is detached from the base and stretched downwards and the appropriate layers are sewn together. The new position of the navel is determined and the navel is straightened and sewn from the muscle that has developed here. Two plastic hoses, called drains, are placed in such a way that the accumulated liquids can drain away.

How Much Weight Do You Lose?

The weight loss isn’t much. It does not exceed 2-3 kg. If the patient steps on the scales after the procedure, he will not notice any particular weight loss. But the waist and abdomen are thinner. Women in particular will be able to wear pre-pregnancy clothes. You are now much more self-confident and can confidently tuck your shirt into your pants and even wear a bathing suit or bikini without shyness.

How long does the operation take?

Back and waist liposuction takes about 1 hour and tummy tuck about 2 hours.

Are there any risks with the operation?

The unique risk of a tummy tuck is delays in wound healing. Especially with a very tight suture, delays and openings in the healing process can be seen in the midline. In this case, the patient’s wound with subsequent dressing usually shrinks and closes on its own within a month.

Leave any scars?

Similar to a caesarean section, a scar remains in the form of an extension of the remaining scar up to the pelvic prominence on both sides. It is important that this scar cannot be seen when wearing a bikini or underwear. In the preoperative drawings, the location is carefully determined together with the patient. Another area where scars are left after a tummy tuck is around the newly formed belly button. This area is an important part of the tummy tuck and should be stitched with precision. The newly created belly button should not be completely round and should look as natural as possible.

What should be considered after the operation?

After the operation, the patient must take at least 1 week time for himself. He should arrange the working and living environment so that he can rest at home for 1 week. The hospital stay is usually 1 night. The day after the operation, the patient is discharged home. In the early phase, the patient should try to walk the evening after the operation. This can be a painful period, but it’s important to use it in a way that doesn’t collect blood in your feet and calves. When lying down, the sewing line should not be stretched. To do this, the patient is placed in a slightly sitting position. A pillow under the knees keeps the knees bent and reduces tension on the abdomen. The blood collection drains placed during the operation are usually removed the next day and the patient is discharged home in a tight corset. The corset can be used for between 4 and 6 weeks.

How quickly can I return to work?

A minimum of 2 weeks rest is required for those with a desk job, and a minimum of 4 weeks for other occupations. All sports activities are allowed from the second month.

Can this operation be repeated?

For example, if a woman has previously had a tummy tuck and has had another pregnancy and childbirth, further surgery may be needed. Apart from that, corrective tummy tuck surgeries can be performed due to technical errors of the first surgery such as: B. an inadequate first operation, insufficient adjustment of the scar position and quality.
